The Versailles Lavender Earl Grey Tea blend from English Tea Store is one of our favorites. Created from a luxury black tea, this tea combines traditional French lavender with England's famous Earl Grey and delivers a blend that has a delicate floral bouquet that compliments the citrus character of bergamot.

Louis XIV's life in his famous palace, Versailles, was extremely regimented. Nothing was left to chance since as King, he was considered second only to God, and deserved only the best. Subsequently, at Versailles, there were rules for everything. (This is where our inspiration for this tea blend comes in.) Louis XIV was always known for his fondness for fresh lavender from the French countryside. He was so fond of it that he demanded to be bathed in lavender scented water every morning. In 1658, he even issued a royal decree ruling exactly how lavender was to be used to scent soap, the "Edit du Roi Pour le Manufactures du Savon" - the man seriously loved his Lavender. So, when it came time to blend a tea in honor of this ancient royal, it only seemed fitting that we blend it with the King's favorite flower.

Caffeine content: Medium - This tea contains natural caffeine found in the L. Camellia Sinensis family. A cup of black tea steeped in boiled water for 5 minutes will contain between 27 to 35 milligrams of caffeine. An equal sized cup of coffee will contain between 80 - 100 milligrams of caffeine. Caffeine quickly becomes soluble in very hot water. If you wish to reduce the caffeine level in this tea, briefly rinsing the tea leaves in extremely hot water will reduce the caffeine content between 25-50% with only a minor effect on taste.

Antioxidant Content: High - The longer you steep your tea the more polyphenols will be extracted. (Test results based on 5 minutes steeping time. Polyphenol percentages may fluctuate with lot, grade of tea, testing method, temperature of water and freshness of tea). More antioxidants are extracted from tea (L. Camellia Sinesis) the longer it is brewed. And the more tea is used, the greater the antioxidant benefit.

Would not buy again, do not recommend.

You should know that this is very low quality tea. My guess is that the positive reviews come from people that have limited knowledge of tea and limited experience in drinking good quality tea. This tea becomes bitter as soon as it is a bit too strong, or as soon as it cools down.

This Tea Is New To Me -- So Far, So Good

Posted by DS Tea Lover on May 23rd 2020

I saw a description of this when placing my last order, so I bought a sample. We have only tried it once. So far, so good. I'll probably include it in my next order. I'll have more to say after trying it a couple of more times.

      Nice pick-me-up

Posted by Kathy on Apr 11th 2020

I have previously used lavender/black tea in the afternoon. It is especially helpful for headache. I also like Earl Grey, so I decided to try this combination. I like it very much. I will definitely replace my lavender with this and may replace the plain Earl Grey as well.

      Good but strong

Posted by Lexi on Apr 10th 2020

Delicious, fresh tea. The lavender is VERY strong. It’s not a subtle undertone; it’s one of the vying flavours of the tea. If you like a good, strong lavender hit from your tea, this one is for you.

      Amazing

I love this tea! I used to order essentially this tea from another store and they discontinued it, I was so glad to find this! The taste is amazing, just the right amount of lavender. I even get two steeps out of the tea (probably could get three if I tried).

      Excellent Blending Tea

Posted by John on Jan 23rd 2020

By it's self it's a little to strong with the Lavender flavor. But it blends well with other Earl Gray flavors. I blend it with my White Tea in the evening and it really adds some flavor. It's also a good blend with Green Tea. If you really like a strong flavor, you'll love this.
