This Blackcurrant Flavored Loose Leaf tea is a unique blend of high-grown teas from the top 3 tea growing regions of Sri Lanka - Nuwara Eliya, Dimbula and Uva. This tea is enhanced with natural flavors of currants, blackberry leaves, mallow, cornflower, marigold and sunflower petals to bring out its deep black currant aroma and flavor. It makes a stunning iced tea, perfect for quenching one's thirst on a hot summer day. It is high in antioxidants and has a medium caffeine level. The recommended brewing time is 4-5 minutes, using 1-1.5 heaping teaspoon per 8-12 oz of fluid volume. For iced tea, use 6 slightly heaping teaspoons of loose tea or 6 tea bags into a teapot or heat resistant pitcher and brew for 5 minutes. The tea is Kosher and Vegan friendly and is small batch blended and packed in Canada at The Metropolitan Tea Company.

Ideal Brewing Temperature: The ideal brewing temperature for tea is 100 degrees Celsius (212 degrees Fahrenheit).

Hot Brewing Method: To prepare a hot cup of tea, bring filtered or freshly drawn cold water to a rolling boil. Place one slightly heaping teaspoon of loose tea for each 7-9 ounces (200-260 milliliters) of fluid volume in the teapot. Pour the boiling water into the teapot, cover and let steep for 3-7 minutes according to taste (the longer the steeping time, the stronger the tea).

Iced Tea Brewing Method (Pitcher): To make one liter/quart of iced tea, place 6 slightly heaping teaspoons of loose tea or 6 tea bags into a teapot or heat-resistant pitcher. Using filtered or freshly drawn cold water, boil and pour 1¼ cups (315 milliliters) over the tea. Steep for 5 minutes. Quarter fill a serving pitcher with cold water. Pour the tea into the serving pitcher, straining the tea or removing the tea bags. Add ice and top up the pitcher with cold water. Garnish and sweeten to taste. Note: some luxury quality teas may turn cloudy when poured over ice. This is a sign of luxury quality and nothing to worry about.

Iced Tea Brewing Method (Individual Serving): To make an individual serving of iced tea, place one slightly heaping teaspoon of loose tea or one tea bag into a teapot. Using filtered or freshly drawn cold water, boil and pour 6-7 ounces (170-200 milliliters) per serving over the tea. Cover and let steep for 5 minutes. Add hot tea to a 12-ounce (375 milliliter) acrylic glass filled with ice, straining the tea or removing the bags. Not all of the tea will fit, allowing for approximately an additional ½ serving. Sweeten and/or add lemon to taste. Note: some luxury quality teas may turn cloudy when poured over ice. This is a sign of luxury quality and nothing to worry about.

Food Safety Advisory: We strongly recommend using filtered or freshly drawn cold water brought to a rolling boil when brewing all types of tea. Boiling the water will kill any potential viruses, parasites and bacteria and reduce the potential incidence of water-borne illnesses.

Antioxidant Benefit: To gain a greater antioxidant benefit from tea, brew for longer and use more tea.
