The Pai Mu Tan White Tea blend from English Tea Store is a clear slightly pale cup with a fresh aroma and a smooth velvety flavor. Delicate jammy notes are reminiscent of Keemun or a mild Bordeaux. This tea has a more delicate flavor and is best enjoyed without milk.

Pai Mu Tan White Tea is the highest grade of white tea available before one enters the stratosphere in pricing for white teas such as Peony White Needle Tea. Pai Mu Tan leaves are plucked from a special varietal tea bush called Narcissus or chaicha bushes. The leaves are not steamed or pan-fired (the process used in green teas). The leaves are naturally withered and dried in the sun. Thirdly only special "two leaves and a bud" are selected. These leaves must show a very light green almost gray white color and be covered with velvet peach fuzz down.

The western cosmetic industry has recently discovered the benefits of white tea. In addition to its anticancer properties, tea has a calming and detoxifying effect on the skin. White tea is especially potent in that it is has three times as many antioxidant polyphenols as green or black tea and has been shown to be 100% more effective in mopping up free radicals that cause skin to sag. Some of the world's top cosmetic companies are becoming very interested in white tea for skin creams and the result is that high grade white tea is becoming even more rare than before.

      So good!

This bag of tea was so much bigger than I expected (the 2 oz) and tastes amazing. Perfect for afternoon tea on spring and summer days, it has a delicate flavor but not too light as with some white teas, a new favorite for sure

Pai Mu Tan is My Favorite

Posted by Ron Sosinski on Feb 26th 2021

This white tea has become a staple for me over the last several years. I've tried many of them. I've stuck with this one, since I consider it to be the best one available considering quality for price. I tried some of the significantly more expensive white teas that are available. I must admit they all were very good. But, as far as I can tell for my tastes, the more expensive ones weren't that much better for taste or general feeling of well being and relaxation.

Fragrant and light, but pricey like all white teas are

Posted by Nina Gordon on Jan 1st 2021

I purchased this tea since it is closest in scent and flavor to my regular white tea, but it is much pricier. My regular supplier is out until the next harvest is ready (I assume), so happy to have a substitute. Lesson learned, stock up when it’s available because the season is limited for this delicious tea.

This is an extremely good tea for the cost. I serve it with a teaspoon of lemon juice. I find the taste very satisfying and the tea itself very relaxing. I've been drinking it regularly for several years now.

Good Tea at a Good Price

I've tried several of the teas from this site over the year. I have found this one to be my favorite. Pai Mu Tan is a high quality white tea that tastes great and goes well with a little lemon juice. It is priced very competitively against other white teas with the same type of quality.

      Excellent Tea

Wow! As a longtime fan of Keemun teas, I am pleased to find that this white tea is indeed reminiscent of a Keemun as described. Slight fruitiness in taste and in its pleasing aroma, and not too strong with the greener flavors but including hints of mint and maybe pine. I think this tea is converting me to the lighter side of tea.

This tea is very good tasting, especially with a little lemon juice added. It's reasonably priced for a Chinese White tea.
