The English Breakfast Blend No. 1 Tea blend from English Tea Store is a blend of the finest Assam, Kenyan and other choice teas. This is our strongest tea, and makes a great start to the day.

It has a full malty flavor with a rich dark color. We recommend this tea be served hot with milk and a little sugar, but it is also delicious served with lemon or it can be used to make iced tea. This tea has a finer leaf size for a faster brew time and better infusion. We also offer a similar tea with a larger leaf.

The English Breakfast Blend No. 1 pairs perfectly with a traditional English style breakfast: poached eggs on toast with baked beans, cheddar and cream cheeses, and cured meats.

English Breakfast Blend No. 1 Tea is gluten free, as well as nuts, wheat, crustacea, eggs, milk/dairy, sulfites, and soy lecithin free. This tea is packed at a factory that has nuts on the premises.

Caffeine content: Medium - This tea contains natural caffeine found in the L. Camellia Sinensis family. A cup of black tea steeped in boiled water for 5 minutes will contain between 27 to 35 milligrams of caffeine. An equal sized cup of coffee will contain between 80 - 100 milligrams of caffeine. Caffeine quickly becomes soluble in very hot water. If you wish to reduce the caffeine level in this tea, briefly rinsing the tea leaves in extremely hot water will reduce the caffeine content between 25-50% with only a minor effect on taste.

Antioxidant Content: High - 7.50 - 9.99% polyphenols by dry weight. The longer you steep your tea the more polyphenols will be extracted. (Test results based on 5 minutes steeping time. Polyphenol percentages may fluctuate with lot, grade of tea, testing method, temperature of water and freshness of tea). More antioxidants are extracted from tea (L. Camellia Sinesis) the longer it is brewed. And the more tea is used, the greater the antioxidant benefit.

Nutritional Information: Amount per Serving; Serving size 2.5 grams of loose tea. Makes 8 fluid ounces or 240 milliliters.

      Almost powder

Tea is so fine that it sifts through a standard ball infuser. I can't imagine what kind of infuser would contain it, except the individual papery ones (extra cost). If you don't mind straining tiny tea bits through your teeth, & having the mess of trying to clean them all out of the infuser, go ahead and order this one. I ordered it because my preferred type was out of stock, and this one was advertised as their strongest cup of tea. What a shock after enjoying the Irish Breakfast loose tea.

      GREAT BREAKFAST TEA FOR PRICE

Posted by KLL on Apr 15th 2020

This tea is ground very fine. This makes the brewing time extra fast and the taste is very good with a bit of milk for a morning tea. It is one of my standard teas I stock.

      tea dust not drinkable

Posted by gbemis on Mar 28th 2020

My bag of English Breakfast #1 tea is mostly tea-dust. very unpleasant and it shifts through the tea-ball, floating around in my cup. Don't bother ordering it. It is terrible.

very good tea after shipping issue resolved

English Tea Store's own brand, namely their English Breakfast Tea No.1 is as good as any other name brand, and better than most. If you've had Twinings or PG Tips and enjoyed them then you'll appreciate the full-bodied flavor of No. 1. At home we usually brew a full pot of tea each morning so we can have more than one cup each. We also add a teaspoon of a Ahmad Special Blend to the pot to add just a touch of extra zing to the flavor. We've been ordering tea from English Tea Store for about eight years now, and they are good people to deal with. Our most recent order arrived in new style bags labeled No.1 but, when we opened the first bag we discovered it contained the larger leaf No.2. The No.2 is the large-leaf version of No.1, and it has very similar taste except that it's milder, less full-bodied. I scooped some onto a dish beside the bag and took a photo with my phone. Then I emailed Online Stores. They handle communications for several merchants including English Tea Store. They responded the next day and asked if we wanted a refund or wanted them to send No.1 as originally requested. We said send the tea, of course! It arrived in about a week, and this time it was the correct fine-grain No.1. We made a fresh pot this morning and confirmed it's exactly right. Nice tea, nice company. Mistakes happen; they fixed it.

      Great Tasting Tea

I love the English Breakfast Tea by ETS. It has a great flavor and brews very fast since it is a very fine ground tea. I mix it with Bourbon Street Vanilla and add a bit of milk for a wonderful taste. It gets me going in the mornings.

As stated by many other reviewers, the tea is ground VERY fine, almost dust-like. The flavor is not bad but absolutely no 'malty' flavor. Much prefer the Scottish or No. 2 loose leaf teas. To each their own...

English Breakfast Blend No. 1 Tea

Just a lovely tea everyone should enjoy at any time of the day or in the evening. Could be ground just a bit coarser as small bits sometimes pass thru the tea strainer mesh. I should have ordered 2 pounds instead of 1 !

This is supposed to be Loose Leaf Tea

My two 1lb bags of English Breakfast Blend No 1 Tea were almost powder. Pretty close to the consistency of that found in a tea bag. The price was great, the taste was OK but nothing worthy of ordering it again.

      Great tea, great price

Posted by Todd on Dec 30th 2018

I love the English, Irish, and Scottish breakfast teas from ETS. I buy them alternately. The English is robust, dark colored tea that takes milk and various methods of sweetening very well. Malty flavor, maybe a bit like porter. Great with honey and a little lemon, especially for a sore throat or bad voice day. I have never really taken to milk in my tea, though I try it periodically. I really prefer the flavor of the tea black, maybe with just a touch of sugar, just enough to take off any bitter edge. If I'm stressed or sick, I make it strong and sweet. That seems to be the recommendation in many English mysteries, which also go well with the tea, by the way. Also, If you don't want to use a real tea strainer with a fine mesh, get the English breakfast tea II. If you want to make real tea, you need a real tea strainer, not a coarse mesh ball style or hole-pricked screw together affair. Unless you want to read the leaves instead of Agatha Christie.
