This large size teapot has quite a history. Its origins date back to the end of the 17th Century and the birth of the British Ceramic Teapot. The original unglazed teapot was made out of red clay from the Bradell Woods area in Stoke-on-Trent. Today the Brown Betty teapot is still made in Stoke-on-Trent with the same clay from the original area. British people believe the Brown Betty makes the best pot of tea because of the type of clay that is used and the shape of the pot.The 8 cup Brown Betty holds approximately 48 fluid ounces.

    Dimensions: 10.25 inches L x 7.5 inches H (with lid) x 6.5 inches W (mouth of teapot is approximately 3 inches)

This teapot is lovingly hand-made in Staffordshire England. Because these teapots are hand made, there may be some slight imperfections. These teapots are not intended for use in a microwave or on a stovetop. We recommend an electric tea kettle to boil the water for brewing your tea. Brown Bettys are dishwasher safe, however the best care is to rinse in hot water and allow to air dry.

Please Note: We cannot guarantee whether your teapot will come embossed with "Original Staffordshire Brown Betty" on the side as the above pictures show. However, we can assure you that whether or not your teapot is embossed, you will be receiving an authentic Brown Betty teapot.

    Available in 2cup, 4cup, 6 cup & 8 cup.

      Glazing is poor.

Posted by Ken on Dec 30th 2018

I received an 8-cup Brown Betty for Christmas. Wonderful looking teapot and works well all things considered. However, the glazing on the terracotta clay is failing possibly due to being too thin or an incorrect mixture of the glaze compounds. The teapot 'sweats' along cracks in the glaze all over the pot. I don't know whether I can return, but I'd probably not buy or suggest as a gift item again.

      Just As I Remember

Posted by Scribe on Apr 28th 2018

"Brown Betty" is an institution, not just a cute pot. I lived in England briefly, and one of my mementos was a lovely Brown Betty teapot. I chose that because it really does make a wonderful cuppa, and everyone seemed to have one. But I needed a larger size for an up-coming invasion of family, so I ordered the 8-cup here. It's just as I remember it, a bigger version of what I have. The shape and quality are just what I expected, right down to the "Made in England" notice stamped into the base of the pot. Cheers!

      Great pot with reservations

I'm buying a replacement 8-cup pot because a slight tap on the kitchen faucet broke the handle off. The pot is made of the traditional terracotta clay (like a flowerpot), and consequently quite tender. Still, the material holds the heat and the pot makes great tea.

This IS the real Brown Betty

Posted by Otter on Oct 7th 2017

This Brown Betty is produced by Adderley Ceramics of Sutherland Rd, Stoke-on-Trent UK. First off, this lot, have a REAL find it on google street view address. Being British and keeping afternoon, morning, and well, every hour of the day tea time, one MUST use a proper English pot. Nothing works like a real Brown Betty. Do not wash of soap this pot. Merely rinse with water and keep a tea cozy ready as you steep your tea. I am quite satisfied with English Tea Store's selection, shipping, and wares.

      Unhappy with quality

We always heat our teapot first. A few weeks ago I noticed that the top has a lot of cracking lines. If it was the pot itself, it would leak. We had our original Brown Betty for years, before it broke. This tea pot lasted four months.
