The Sencha Japanese Tea blend from English Tea Store is a very popular light smooth green tea from Japan. With tending light liquoring, this blend is smooth with reasonable depth and body. This tea is often used in Japanese tea ceremonies.
Arguably one of the world's most popular green teas. While Sencha, by tradition a Japanese tea variety, green tea originated in China and found its way to the island nation via traveling monks in ancient times. In 1740, a Kyoto tea master named Soen Nagatani developed the method of steam processing green leaf, resulting in a very fresh, flavorful cup and Sencha was born. Nagatani's tea quickly took hold, evolving to become a daily drinker, favored by the common populace, as opposed to the more ceremonial varieties of matcha favored by the wealthy.

First time trying English Tea Store's Japanese Sencha Green Loose Leaf Tea?
Try our Sample Size of 1 ounce.- Contents loose leaf tea net weight 4 ounces
- Contents loose leaf tea net weight 16 ounces (1 pound)
Japanese Sencha Green Tea is gluten free, as well as nuts, wheat, crustacea, eggs, milk/dairy, sulfites, and soy lecithin free. This tea is packed at a factory that has nuts on the premises.
Caffeine content: Low - This tea contains natural caffeine found in the L. Camellia Sinensis family. A cup of green tea steeped in boiled water for 5 minutes will contain between 22 to 29 milligrams of caffeine. An equal sized cup of coffee will contain between 80 - 100 milligrams of caffeine. Caffeine quickly becomes soluble in very hot water. If you wish to reduce the caffeine level in this tea, briefly rinsing the tea leaves in extremely hot water will reduce the caffeine content between 25-50% with only a minor effect on taste.
Antioxidant Content: High - 7.5 - 9.99% polyphenols by dry weight. The longer you steep your tea the more polyphenols will be extracted. (Test results based on 5 minutes steeping time. Polyphenol percentages may fluctuate with lot, grade of tea, testing method, temperature of water and freshness of tea). More antioxidants are extracted from tea (L. Camellia Sinesis) the longer it is brewed. And the more tea is used, the greater the antioxidant benefit.

Japanese sencha green tea
This is my every day green tea. It has the bright, fresh flavor of the ocean air compared to the more green, grassy Chinese greens, so it can be enjoyed alone or with sushi.

Sencha Review
Sencha: The box arrived today and upon opening I was pleased to note that 4 ounces was more than I expected it to be. Upon opening I was also pleased to note that the pouches were both opaque and resealable, (tea leaves oxidize in the air and the essential oils break down in UV, so packaging matters for tea) however when I opened the Sencha I was disappointed to note that the aroma was very faint, pleasant, but very faint. As the leaves are dried I wasn't too worried about it figuring that the scent would intensify after brewing so I got to it. I have a rather large tea ball, spherical and approximately 1 1/4 in. (3cm) in diameter which I filled half full (to give the dry leaves room to swell and release their essential oils.) I then heated on the stove 12 cups of water to a temp of 150f (66c, and yes I have a thermometer) and dropped in the tea. 3 minutes to steep (yes on a timer) poured a cup and wow, it was as weak as the smell. There was nothing wrong with the flavor, its not bad tea, but it was very weak. So of course I figured I must have used way too much water. No problem, refill the ball get the tea back to 150f and drop in the refilled tea ball (this time 5 minutes steep) same result... weak. Fresh brew then 6 cups this time, and I increased the temp (what did I have to lose at this point rite) 170f (76c) figured it would be too hot and would make the brew bitter, Sencha is a green tea after all but figured I would try it anyway. 5 minute steep, the good news, not bitter, the bad news, not stronger either. The Sencha was about $5.00 US for 4 Ounces, a very reasonable price so I wasn't expecting the best tea I've ever had and to be fair the taste was OK, it wasn't bad tea, but it was very weak. I suppose for $5.00 I shouldn't have high expectations but I have had some very good Sencha at this price (the shop that I used to get it from didn't survive the pandemic which is why I am looking for a new tea shop.) This was very disappointing. I ordered several other types of tea and I intend to comment on all of them, I hope the rest are better 6/21/2021 Purchased 6/30/2021 Received 6/30/2021 Reviewed
