The Sencha Japanese Tea blend from English Tea Store is a very popular light smooth green tea from Japan. With tending light liquoring, this blend is smooth with reasonable depth and body. This tea is often used in Japanese tea ceremonies.

Arguably one of the world's most popular green teas. While Sencha, by tradition a Japanese tea variety, green tea originated in China and found its way to the island nation via traveling monks in ancient times. In 1740, a Kyoto tea master named Soen Nagatani developed the method of steam processing green leaf, resulting in a very fresh, flavorful cup and Sencha was born. Nagatani's tea quickly took hold, evolving to become a daily drinker, favored by the common populace, as opposed to the more ceremonial varieties of matcha favored by the wealthy.

Japanese Sencha Green Tea is gluten free, as well as nuts, wheat, crustacea, eggs, milk/dairy, sulfites, and soy lecithin free. This tea is packed at a factory that has nuts on the premises.

Caffeine content: Low - This tea contains natural caffeine found in the L. Camellia Sinensis family. A cup of green tea steeped in boiled water for 5 minutes will contain between 22 to 29 milligrams of caffeine. An equal sized cup of coffee will contain between 80 - 100 milligrams of caffeine. Caffeine quickly becomes soluble in very hot water. If you wish to reduce the caffeine level in this tea, briefly rinsing the tea leaves in extremely hot water will reduce the caffeine content between 25-50% with only a minor effect on taste.

Antioxidant Content: High - 7.5 - 9.99% polyphenols by dry weight. The longer you steep your tea the more polyphenols will be extracted. (Test results based on 5 minutes steeping time. Polyphenol percentages may fluctuate with lot, grade of tea, testing method, temperature of water and freshness of tea). More antioxidants are extracted from tea (L. Camellia Sinesis) the longer it is brewed. And the more tea is used, the greater the antioxidant benefit.

Nutritional Information: Amount per Serving; Serving size 2.5 grams of loose tea. Makes 8 fluid ounces or 240 milliliters.

Every sip is smooth, buttery, and inviting you to sip more...this is what Lu Tong was talking about in his tea poem

This Japanese Sencha Green Tea - Loose Leaf is very smooth and refreshing. The best Sencha I have tested in years. It has a heavy feel on the tongue which I love for a green tea. Every sip is smooth and inviting you to sip more. There is a slightly buttery feel and taste with notes of apricot. No astringency is present, and the smoothness maintains through a second steeping. I steeped this tea at 180 degrees for 3 minutes in a 24 ounce tea pot. I love sipping a tea pot of tea after a morning run, and I sipped this tea after a 6 mile meditative run on a 29 degree morning. An exceptional loose leaf tea is my pleasure and reward after a morning run, and this tea made my day!! One of my favorite tea quoted that best describes my experience with this smooth, buttery, refreshing for the soul, and inspiring Sencha is the "Song of Seven Cups" tea poem by Lu Tong of the Táng Dynasty.
