The English Breakfast Blend No. 2 CO2 Decaffeinated Tea blend from English Tea Store is a strong, full bodied tea with some fruity notes.

This blend is based on FP leaf from Sri Lanka's Dimbula region, harvested high up in the mountains above Colombo. For a decaffeinated blend, the cup is decidedly self-assured with lovely floral notes, medium body, balanced astringency and a long finish. (The cup is so good it has actually fooled professional tea tasters into believing it was untreated). A wonderful all-day breakfast tea that opens wonderfully with milk.

It has long been rumored that the Queen of England insists on drinking only decaffeinated teas past noon. To purists it might sound outlandish that the reining sovereign of the most famous of all tea drinking nations should do such a thing, but apparently it's true. And it could well be, since drinking decaf allows those who are caffeine sensitive to reap all the health benefits of tea without getting the jitters. Proper tea produced from Camellia Sinensis, is one of Mother Nature's best options in terms of getting cancer-fighting polyphenols and antioxidants into your body. It's also a great source of vitamin C. The problem for many years was that decaffeinated teas were invariably awful. At the factory level, finished tea underwent a chemical based decaffeination process that stripped the caffeine and with it many of the natural healthy compounds found in the untreated leaf (it also left an unpleasant aftertaste most un-befitting the breakfast table of her Highness).

The Canadian Chemical Free CO2 Process removes caffeine without using chemicals of any sort. Instead, finished tea is briefly soaked in exceptionally pure water and gently flushed with CO2. The CO2 binds to the caffeine molecules and extracts them from the tea leaving behind all the natural proteins that give tea its flavor. It also leaves many of the polyphenols and antioxidants intact - so it's still good for you.

Antioxidant Content: Medium. The longer you steep your tea the more polyphenols will be extracted. (Test results based on 5 minutes steeping time. Polyphenol percentages may fluctuate with lot, grade of tea, testing method, temperature of water and freshness of tea). More antioxidants are extracted from tea (L. Camellia Sinesis) the longer it is brewed. And the more tea is used, the greater the antioxidant benefit.

Decaf loose leaf English Breakfast tea

Posted by Victoria Shea on Feb 8th 2021

Delicious - an amazing upgrade from decaf tea bags. I brew it in my Keurig with reusable mesh pods, so no plastic waste. I use a splash of half and half and sugar substitute. A wonderful afternoon or evening treat without the caffeine.

      Weak tea

Posted by Gregory on Dec 15th 2020

Everything else you sent on our order was fine and very well packed. We were disappointed with the tea as it was very weak and had no flavor. As we drink out tea with milk we prefer a stronger more flavorful tea. Any recommendations?

English Breakfast Blend No. 2 Decaf Tea - Loose Leaf

Posted by Steve Thomas on Oct 14th 2020

This is a pretty nice flavored tea. Having been a non-decaf drinker for years, it took a few days to get used to, but I quite like it now. I find that I have to add more tea per cup (I use a one-cup French press) - about one heaped teaspoon, and I have to let it steep longer (about 7 minutes vs 3-4 minutes for non-decaf. I like that it's decaffeinated using the CO2 process rather than with chemical solvents. Overall, I'd recommend this tea if you're trying to cut down on your caffeine, it's a good compromise between low/zero caffeine content and flavor.

Good tea for all day drinking

Posted by Jonathan Guthrie on Oct 14th 2020

To improve my sleep, my doctor advised me to avoid caffeine except in the early morning. So, I drink iced tea all day, and I make it with this tea. The only thing I wish was that there was a decaffeinated version of the Lady Londonderry tea because sometimes I want a flavored tea in the afternoon.

      Excellent tea

I've bought similar tea from multiple online vendors. This was perhaps the best in terms of quality and was the best packaged.

      Good-tasting Decaf!

Posted by Robin Kukura on Sep 17th 2020

Most decaf is pretty flat-tasting, but this blend has actual tea leaves, instead of "grounds", & has decent flavor, more like caffenated teas. Also makes good iced tea, & is a good base to add your favorite fruit to for a summery drink.

Would not buy this again. Did not like either the taste or the aroma.

Posted by Howard on May 15th 2020

I have purchased the caffeinated version of this tea several times and have been pleased with it. I would buy again. The Decaf product simply does not taste like tea nor is the aroma what I expect in a good tea; it reminds me of a generic tea bag. After two cups I decided that I could not drink any more and tossed the remainder of the package in the trash.
