Jams & Spreads
These fine jams and marmalades taste great and are made with lots of real fruit. They are perfect to enjoy with scones, clotted cream and afternoon tea.
Marmalade is a type of orange jam, made with Seville oranges which have a hint of bitterness, which contrasts the sweetness of the sugar. It is best served on fresh crusty bread, or toast for breakfast
Clotted creams are thick and absolutely delicious, and are best explained as a cross between cream and butter.
Lemon curd is a delicious tart, soft, thick, spreadable cooked cream that contains eggs, sugar, lemon juice and lemon zest. It has more lemon juice and zest and a more buttery taste than lemon filling.
Lemon curd can be served as a spread for scones or toast, and goes well with tea at any time of day. It ia also wonderful as a filling in trifles, tarts, sponge and cakes. To make it lighter in texture and even more creamy add some whipped cream to the lemon curd.
All of the jams and marmalade sold through our website are made with real fruit. We carry Hartley's Best Jam, known for being a smooth spread with no fruit bits; Robertson's, including Gold Shred marmalade; and Frank Cooper's, supposedly the Queen's favorite marmalade which is served in British embassies across the globe. Marmalade is made with Seville oranges, which explains its sweet and bitter taste. It is best served for breakfast with fresh, crusty bread or toast. Lemon curd, another spread that goes well on toast and scones, is a combination of cooked cream, eggs, sugar, and lemon juice and zest, making it more buttery in taste than pie filling. In some confections, it can be used as a thick, sweet filling as well.
