Our selection of Christmas cakes includes cakes from England, Scotland, Germany and Italy. We carry traditional English Christmas cakes by Bronte, Norfolk, Walkers, and Mr. Kipling. A traditional Christmas cake consists of a cake with fruits, nuts, and spices – similar to an American fruit cake but with a sugar icing made with marzipan, a type of candy made from almonds. If you’re a host for a party, you’ll probably need a larger cake around 2lbs, and our selection includes slab and round cakes, as well as individual slices by Mr. Kipling.
Fruit and nuts are used in most of the English Christmas cakes. Whiskey cake, a traditional Scottish Christmas fruit cake has Glenfiddich Scotch Whiskey added to the recipe. Aside from the excellent taste, this gives the dried fruits in the cake a plumper texture.
In addition to English Christmas cakes, we offer German and Italian cakes. Our German Christmas cake is a marzipan stollen, which is named after the German word for “mine tunnel,” as the cake has a similar shape. The Italian Christmas cake is a panettone, Although from other parts of Europe, these two Christmas cakes use similar fruit and nut combinations to the English cake.
