Regarded by connoisseurs as one of the most elite black teas in existence, our premium Keemun Panda China Black Tea delivers an extraordinarily sophisticated, multi-layered sensory experience. Famous for its brilliant, deep reddish-amber brew, this celebrated loose leaf offers an intensely aromatic and penetrating character frequently compared to fine aged Burgundy wines. The palate is treated to a commanding structure with remarkable depth and complexity, seamlessly unbinding crisp, winey, and nuanced fruity top notes. It possesses an exceptional physical body that accepts a splash of milk magnificently while maintaining its distinctive, bold terroir integrity.
As a premier representation of classical Chinese black teas, Keemun Panda is processed strictly as a Congou-type tea. This designation signifies that the raw leaf requires an immense degree of Gongfu—a term sharing identical linguistic characters in written Chinese script for both disciplined skill, time, and labor. Our tea masters utilize this highly technical, labor-intensive hand-rolling protocol to shape the freshly plucked leaves into exceptionally fine, taut, unbroken strips. This demanding manipulation ensures a controlled, highly uniform oxidation phase. Furthermore, Keemun Panda is structurally recognized as one of the finest keeping black teas in the world; when cellared and stored correctly, these premium leaves will age gracefully for years, mellowing over time to develop an even deeper, more profound winey character.
The heritage of this blend traces back directly to the mountainous microclimate of Qimen County in southern Anhui Province. Historically, this region exclusively produced green tea until the mid-1870s. In 1875, a visionary former civil servant—heeding ancestral advice that a technical skill guarantees a more stable livelihood than precarious officialdom—traveled extensively to Fujian Province to master the guarded, complex mechanics of black tea manufacturing. Upon his return to Qimen, he established three specialized factories perfectly calibrated to manipulate the local harvest. The region's warm, moist climate and well-drained, nutrient-dense sandy soils proved uniquely suited for this style of processing, rapidly positioning Keemun as a cornerstone component of traditional, high-end English Breakfast tea formulations worldwide.

"The very best - and getting hard to find!"

"I am glad to encounter a Keemun flavor in this tea (as contrasted to the Organic Assam which I also reviewed), although it is rather ""distinct"" / unusual compared to other Keemuns I have encountered over the years. I may get more used to it, and I will definitely keep drinking it."

"It's very tasty"

"Something off about it this time. I've purchased many pounds of this over last ~10 years. This batch, thoughts on my first cups was I should've bought organic as there's maybe a chemical something to it. ETS seemed more concerned telling me I hadn't ordered this in the past than actually considering what I'd shared about it with them. After giving them my order info going back years to show I have ordered it, they simply said 'those were on older order system. I can check to see if tea has changed in past 8 years'. I haven't heard anything back so not sure if they have different supplier, or what"

"This tea is a steal for $21. 56/lb. I need to purchase this one more often. Pretty much has everything I want from a Keemun black tea – winey, deep, and has strong “orchid” notes. Both simple and complex at the same time, a good representation of what I consider to be the best variety of black tea. Definitely punching above it’s price range. I find that this is perhaps only slightly less enjoyable than some of the pricier varieties I’ve tried, such as Hao Ya “A”, Hao Ya “B”, or Imperial Grade."
