Sencha Japanese Green Tea is a light, smooth tea with good depth and body. Often used in the Japanese Tea Ceremony, Sencha teas are first steamed to prevent oxidation. They are then rolled, dried, and fired to add flavor.
The initial steaming step separates Japanese green tea from Chinese. Senchas are described as having a more vegetal flavor, and are darker and more bitter than Chinese green teas. Sencha is very popular in Japan, where it is drunk hot in the cold months, and iced during the summer.
For the best brew, Sencha Japanese Green Tea should steep in water that is steaming (150-180ø F) for 1-4 minutes.

Valued Customer: In the wake of the disaster in Japan, we had concerned customers contacting us about when our Japanese teas were harvested and brought into our warehouse in Pennsylvania. Our vendors receive their tea after it is harvested in late summer, early fall. They receive enough inventory to supply their customers for 18 months. Japan?s season is currently winter and was not harvesting their tea at the time of the disaster.
